Kasunic Bill that Encourages Fishing is on its way to the Governor’s Desk
HARRISBURG, June 11, 2012— Following unanimous approval from the House of Representatives, Sen. Richard A. Kasunic’s legislation that would enable the Fish Commission to do more to promote fishing in Pennsylvania is on its way to the governor for enactment.
“My bill (Senate Bill 1049) would give the commission more flexibility to make some licensing and permitting offerings to encourage more people to try fishing,” Kasunic said. “I am pleased that the legislature unanimously acted to encourage greater public interest in the great sport of fishing in Pennsylvania.
Under the Kasunic bill, the Fish Commission could issue:
- multi-year licenses and permits;
- group licenses and permits; and
- discounted promotional licenses and permits.
“My bill gives the commission the flexibility to try some new and creative ways to entice more people to try fishing,” Kasunic said. “As someone who has enjoyed the sport my whole life, I can enthusiastically tell you it’s a great, healthy and relaxing way to have some fun and enjoy the outdoors.
Kasunic serves as Democratic chairman of the Senate Game and Fisheries Committee.
