Kasunic and Daley Announce $5 Million for California Borough
HARRISBURG, July 14, 2009 – State Senator Richard A. Kasunic and State Rep. Peter Daley today announced a $5 million state grant for sewer system improvements in California Borough, Washington County.
“This funding will enable the borough to move ahead with this construction work,” Kasunic said. “I am pleased that state dollars are being made available for this important project.
“Senator Kasunic and I worked closely with local officials to obtain this grant money,” Daley said. “We will continue to seek state support for other worthy local projects.”
The project would provide the Borough of California $5 million for sewer improvements. Improvements include constructing a new primary pump station in close proximity to the existing station and the construction of a new treatment plant. In addition, storm sewers that are connected to sanitary sewers will be identified and separated. Kasunic said the project will also benefit both the Malden and Granville areas of the borough.
The funds are part of the H20 PA Act, a state program designed to help municipalities and authorities pay for repairs to their water, sewer, and flood control systems. The program is funded with gaming proceeds through the Pennsylvania Gaming Economic Development and Tourism Fund.
