Kasunic Appointed To Athletic Oversight CommitteeHARRISBURG, March 10, 2009 — State Sen. Richard A. Kasunic has been appointed to serve on the Pennsylvania Athletic Oversight Committee. The committee was created by the General Assembly as an oversight committee to review the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association’s (PIAA) compliance with Act 91 of 2000, which deals with state interscholastic athletics and the association’s accountability. “Student athletics are an important part of Pennsylvania’s culture and tradition,” Kasunic said. “It is essential that the PIAA remain committed to serving our student-athletes and providing quality interscholastic competition. I will use my role on this committee to ensure that this competition is both fair and fun for our student-athletes.” The committee is dedicated to making recommendations on matters such as appeals, athletic eligibility issues, student transfers, and expansion of PIAA-sanctioned competition or sports. The committee also dictates that competitive bidding take place in site selection for championship competitions. Kasunic serves as chairman of the Senate Democratic Policy Committee, and is the Democratic chair of the Senate Game and Fisheries Committee. He is also a member of the Senate committees on Consumer Protection and Professional Licensure, Labor and Industry, Rules and Executive Nominations, and Transportation. ### CONTACT: WILL DANDO |
