Volunteer Emergency Service Grant Program Now Open

HARRISBURG, SEPT. 9, 2009 -State Sen. Richard Kasunic today announced the opening of the Volunteer Fire Company, Volunteer Ambulance Service Grant Program.

According to Kasunic, the program is available to assist local volunteer emergency service organizations complete projects to improve operations.

“Hundreds of Pennsylvanians volunteer their time to protect their communities,” Kasunic said. “I am pleased that state funding is being made available for these projects, especially during tough economic times.”

Grants are available for volunteer fire companies and ambulance services to provide financial assistance for projects related to construction or renovation of facilities, purchase or repair of firefighting, ambulance or rescue equipment, debt reduction associated with the facility or equipment, and training and certification of members.

Eligible organizations include nonprofit, chartered Volunteer Fire Companies, Volunteer Ambulance Services and Volunteer Rescue Companies. Each organization can request funding for up to two of these eligible projects, and awards are available ranging from $2,500 to $15,000.

The on-line application period began Sept. 8, 2009 and will remain open until Oct. 23, 2009. Only projects initiated after July 1, 2009 may be considered eligible for the current grant year. To apply online or for more information about the program, please visit www.osfc.state.pa.us.
